The last Saturday of April is marked as World Veterinary Day. We celebrate our veterinary professionals on this day, first noted by the World Veterinary Association in 2000.
While we always appreciate the health of our pets, and the help and care they receive from veterinary professionals, today especially we'll think about their important work.
Let's raise a virtual catnip toy today to honor all of the veterinarians that have helped our cats throughout the year!
Today, April 24, is recognized as National Hairball Awareness Day. This "holiday" is "celebrated" annually on the last Friday in April. I think most cat owners are aware of hairballs without having to mark a special date on the calendar. The day is listed along with many other such awareness campaigns on the AVMA Veterinary Awareness Events page.
In our house, we are very lucky to have minimal problems with hairballs between our three boys.
With our previous long-haired tuxedo Arby, it was a regular battle that we fought with periodic doses of hairball preventative gels. Here's a photo of our sweet tuxedo boy enjoying a face-plant nap in a cat bed.
Hopefully you are among the lucky cat owners who hasn't had to think about hairballs until being reminded by this annual event!
This is a great convertible cat carrier that is both airline approved and conveniently expandable to provide extra space while keeping your kitty safe.
This is a soft-sided cat carrier that, when the expansion areas are closed, is approved for many airlines for in-cabin travel.
The great benefit of this carrier is that it can expand to provide extra space for your kitty to stretch out and move around. The sides have two expansion areas that can be accessed by zipper. A short tunnel can also expand out from another side to give kitty even more space.
Using these expansion areas is great to use when you are expecting to have to wait in place for some time, like at the airport before boarding your flight, or in the waiting room at the vet before the appointment begins, or in hotel rooms when you cat needs to stay secured for her own safety.
Today, April 11, is National Pet Day. While this may not be a major, widely-recognized holiday, the love we have for our companion animals is worth celebrating every day.
Especially in the current Covid-19 pandemic crisis facing everyone on this planet, pets can provide their owners with much-needed emotional support and cherished companionship.
I know our cats have been providing essential services: comforting snuggles and improv comedy entertainment are helping us tremendously as we stay #saferathome. On behalf of our three sweeties here at home, we wish everyone a very happy National Pet Day!
This is a fun USB rechargeable interactive cat toy. The game is a small dome that covers small feather toys with limited paw-sized access ports. When turned on, the tufts move around using magnetic maglev technology, enticing your cat to chase and play.
The idea of the game is to poke and capture the feather tuft toys inside. Reviewers suggested only using one toy at a time inside, as using both together might cause them to get stuck to each other and for the game to not function properly.
While the fun of the game is the enticing maglev motion, other reviewers notice that their cats would play with the fun restricted dome even when the toy was not turned on. Some cats found it so enticing and engaging that their owners decided to place the toy out of view when they could not supervise.
The calendar is full of fun commemorative holidays to spread awareness on a crazy variety of topics. One of those commemorative days worth celebrating for cat owners is Respect Your Cat Day, celebrated each year on March 28th.
Especially in this time of extra stress and uncertainty due to the global Covid-19 pandemic, pets are stepping up to provide their owners with essential services which include emotional comfort and original entertainment. Take a moment to honor the four-legged heroes in your home on this special day.
